Prepare to be swept away on a journey of sonic exploration as the Edmonton Winds, under the direction of Raymond Baril, proudly presents "Impressions and Expressions," a concert extravaganza that promises to redefine the boundaries of musical expression. Join us at MacEwan’s Triffo Theatre on May 5, 2024, at 2 pm for the grand finale of the Edmonton Winds 2023-2024 season.

Step into a realm where music becomes a canvas, painting vivid impressions with every note. This concert promises an immersive journey through the enchanting world of impressionism, where composers craft landscapes of sound. Feel the pulse of the city with Gorb's "Adrenaline City," with vibrant rhythms capturing the bustling energy of urban life. Usher in the atomic age with “Atomic Time” (David), then delve into dreamlike landscapes with Debussy's "The Engulfed Cathedral," where haunting melodies conjure visions of ancient stone edifices rising from misty waters. Impressions can be comical, and Schickele's playful "Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion" (composed under his pseudonym P.D.Q. Bach) adds a whimsical touch. Giroux's "Impressions" invites reflection and nostalgia by painting serene portraits of academia, while Stride’s piece of the same name remembers the unique baritone sax and bassoon talents of Trever Harris, a student in the University of Victoria Wind Symphony. In a tribute to Jayne Montgomery Barnes, a longtime member of the band who passed away in February, Meechan's "Wind of Change" portrays the joy, the pride, and the love for music felt by the community of performers and by those who listen and sustain the music across generations.
